Beginning with students applying for fall 2003 admission, the requirements are the same for both systems. (“A-G” subject requirements)


Filing period for admission: November 1-30 for the following fall semester.

A - U.S. HISTORY or GOVERNMENT

    2 years

    At Newport Harbor, students are required to take these courses for high school graduation.
    • 9thgrade: World history / Geography
    • 11thgrade: U.S. History
    • 12thgrade: Economics and American Government
                    

B - COLLEGE PREP ENGLISH

    4 years

                    

C - MATHEMATICS

    3 years required, 4 recommended.

    (Algebra, Geometry, Algebra 2, etc.)
                   

D - LABORATORY SCIENCE

    2 years are required, 3 years recommended.

    (Biology, Chemistry, Physics)
                   

E - FOREIGN LANGUAGE

    2 years of the same language required;
    3 years recommended

                    

F - VISUAL/PERFORMING ARTS

    One year required

                    

G - HONORS & COLLEGE PREP ELECTIVES

    A total of 4 additional semesters of college prep electives. These electives must be from at least 2 of the following areas
    • Advanced Mathematics - 4th, 5th year(s)
    • Foreign Language - 3rd, 4th year(s)
    • Lab Science 3rd, 4th year(s)
    • Social Science
