Evening of the Arts


The Fourteenth Annual Evening of the Arts at NHHS will celebrate the accomplishments of our many fine visual and performing art students. A family event for art connoisseurs of all ages, this spectacular exhibit will feature drama scenes, live music, dance performances and visual art displays highlighting outstanding painting, drawing, ceramics, and photography of NHHS students. Festivities begin at 6:00 p.m. on Wednesdasy, May 14 by the big anchor on Irvine Avenue. Performances will begin at 7:00 p.m. in the girl's gym. Support the creative spirit these fine students have shown throughout their efforts by attending, relaxing and enjoying yourselves. Dress casual, admission is free and your attendance is essential! Cheer Tryouts

Newport Harbor Cheer is a year-round program that is comprised of extremely talented and spirited students, a hard-working staff, dedicated coaches, and a supportive group of parents. The Cheer program at Harbor provides an environment that stresses hard work and fun, promotes each student's educational and extracurricular activities, fosters high ideals of friendship and teamwork, and teaches the importance of being a person of character.

A general information meeting for all potential cheerleaders and their parents will be held on Tuesday, May 6th at 6:30 p.m. in Portable 9. Try-out information will be distributed at the meeting. Dance Auditions

The Dance program at Newport Harbor offers classes for students of all ability levels. From beginning dance through advanced dance, students study ballet, jazz, modern, lyrical, hip-hop, cultural dance, and dancing through the decades. All dance students perform in the annual "ArreiS" dance production and the intermediate and advanced students perform at "Evening of the Arts". The Varsity and JV dance teams attend summer camp and perform at pep rallies, homecoming football and basketball games. They also complete against other high schools in regional competitions.

Anyone interested in being involved in the dance program at Newport Harbor should attend an information meeting on Monday, May 19th at 4 p.m. for Dance 1, 2, & 3 and at 5 p.m. for the JV and Varsity Dance Teams in the Dance room (parents and dancers should attend the dance team meeting). Auditions will be held for Dance II, III, JV Dance Team, and the Varsity Dance Team. Varsity Dance auditions will be held on Thursday, May 22nd and JV Dance auditions will be held on Thursday, May 29th. Anchor Corps

Please support the 2008 Harbor Heritage Run, our PTA's only fundraiser, by joining the Anchor Corps. All donations of $50 and up will be acknowledged in 20,000 race brochures. Sponsorship opportunites still exist for your business. See the Anchor Corps letter for details. Thanks very much to all of those families who have already sent in their checks.
